Eileen Griffin Update

CaptureA few episodes back Tammy (a.k.a. Jeep Momma) told us about a wheeling friend’s critical rollover and crash while heading home from a day of wheeling. We recently reached out to Chris (a.k.a. CPO) to get an update. He pointed us over to a GoFundMe page.

On Saturday, August 4, 2018, Eileen was out enjoying off-roading in her Jeep at the AOAA Off Road Park. After finishing a great day on the trails, she was driving south on I-81 to head back to the campgrounds she was staying at, and something in her front driver side wheel broke (hub/knuckle/etc). Her Jeep took a hard left turn into the guard rail, and she rolled at least two times down into the median of the highway. She was seriously injured. She was transported to Hershey Medical via helicopter, where she is now there in the SICU. She has numerous broken bones in her arms and legs, a broken chest, and severe head injuries. She is also experiencing issues with blood flow to here left arm due to the trauma.

The most recent update…

Hi everyone, my apologies for the lack of updates recently. Eileen is unfortunately experiencing a serious setback at the moment. As I’ve mentioned a few times she was having issues with her feed tube, my Mom had initially noticed that it was leaking on the outside of her abdomen whenever they fed her. Without getting into too much detail they did a CT scan on Friday and determined that it was also leaking internally, and that this leak was creating an infection that required emergency surgery. So she had the surgery overnight Friday into Saturday, and per the surgeon they believe they have it all cleaned up. The infection did not spread to any major organs so that’s good, but it was still invasive and will require quite a bit of healing. She had been a bit “down” lately as she fought the infection, and we expect that to continue while she recovers from this, so progress will be slow for a little while. So not a good situation because it will set her back on her overall recovery, but we’re confident that she will overcome it as her resilience is not wavering. Her active times have been very encouraging, lots of signs of cognition and and more and more of her personality showing through, so it’s just a matter of getting her back on track.

You can keep up to date with Eileen’s progress here.  We continue to pray for Eileen and her family.
