Buzz The Tower

Jeep, Small and Affordable.  That’s Like Saying Jumbo Shrimp!

The Jeep Cherokee and Renegade SUVs are making another drive-by.  Well, that sounds bad but for me neither are Jeeps I’m interested in, but you may be.  Wife, daughter, etc…

Jeep Cherokee SUV and a New $25k Renegade are making a comeback for 2025.  This will make the difference between the lowest-priced Jeep and the most expensive, some $75k!!!

Unlike the new Renegade the 2025 Jeep Compass keeps on doing what it’s doing with the same starting price.  I have heard from several listeners that it’s not an off-road Jeep, but it’s a good commuter.  How many Jeeps can you say that about?

Just to be clear about the off-road comment.  They do have a Trailhawk package for it, but I recommend you keep it on the road, with max off-roading being the shoulder.

Permission to buzz the tower?

That’s a negative Maverick!

SUV does a barrel roll off of a Gladiator during a high-speed chase.

San Diego.

Jeep Gladiator looks like it lost a rear passenger fender but otherwise barely notices the SUV as all four of it’s tires leaves the ground and continue through the air eventually landing on it’s roof.

Are you the driver of the maroon Jeep Gladiator outfitted for overlanding?  We’d like to speak to you!

As of the time of this episode’s recording, we have no further information.

Jeep, Dodge reports a 48% drop in the first half on weak U.S. sales.

Obviously this has to do with higher interest rates, but could it be that Jeep is providing too much focus on EVs?  Time and time again, Americans have shown they want large iconic vehicles.  Hell even Jeep has seen this with very good Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer sales.

Maybe Stellantis should focus on the “fun” and “iconic” aspect of the Jeeps they are making.  I still think they should make a very off-road capable Wrangler for $25k  No frills, just a badass wheeler.  Fun!  Iconic!

Ain’t nothing exciting about getting a colonoscopy just something you have to do.  Don’t make buying a Jeep like a colonoscopy.

$1 million of Jeep Wagoneers stolen in SUV heist by teens from Warren plant

WARREN, Mich. A broken security fence shows the aftermath of 10 high-priced Jeep Wagoneers worth nearly a million dollars combined being stolen.  Warren police say all the suspects were kids under 18.

The snapshots show the trail of damage from the latest high-priced vehicle heist in Metro Detroit. Warren police say at 3 a.m. Monday, thieves crashed a Dodge Ram through the Warren Stamping Plant fence.

They stole 10 Grand Wagoneers – which start at about $93,000 each, before sunrise.

Jeep to challenge Rivan, Tesla Cybertruck with the Gladiator EV pickup

Jeep plans to launch the electric Gladiator we’ve been waiting for. Although it won’t hit the market for another few years, Jeep hopes the Gladiator EV can fend off top-selling rivals like Rivian’s R1S and R1T and Tesla’s Cybertruck. Here’s what to expect from the electric Jeep pickup.

After launching its first all-electric vehicle in the US last month, the Wagoneer S, Jeep has bigger plans to expand in the US market.

Jeep is facing its slowest US sales year in over a decade. The rugged automaker’s sales fell another 21% YOY in the second quarter.

After peaking in 2018, Jeep’s US sales have been in a downward spiral. CEO Antonio Filosa, who took over last November, believes Jeep can finally turn things around and reach the 1 million sales threshold in the US.

Erie man gets prison term for failing to deliver on Jeep raffle, making up bogus winner

An Erie man accused of running a Jeep raffle in 2021 but failing to award the prize, and of making up a bogus winner in an effort to cover up his failure, told an Erie County judge on Tuesday that he never had any intention of hurting anyone.

“I went into this to try to make something good in the community,” 55-year-old Preston Devenney told Judge John J. Mead.

But many people were hurt by the alleged fraud, Chief Deputy District Attorney Jeremy Lightner said. They included 204 people on a list Lightner gave to the court who bought a ticket for a chance to win a customized 2021 diesel Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Willys 4×4 that Devenney was supposed to award during the Great Lakes Jeep Jam event at the Wattsburg-Erie County Fairgrounds in July 2021.

The victims also included two charities, Mission 22 and the Erie Humane Society, which were promised a portion of the event’s proceeds.

How Far Can a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk Go on Electric Power Alone?

2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk has an EPA-estimated electric range of 25 miles on a full charge, and earlier this year, we traveled 21.9 miles on electric power alone on a mild winter day.

Temperatures were in the upper 60s and lower 70s Fahrenheit during the drive, and there was also some light rain in the area. It wasn’t the ideal conditions, but the Jeep still traveled 25.6 miles on electric power alone — spot on with its EPA estimate — before switching to its gas-electric Hybrid mode. The smooth and quiet driving experience the Jeep offers when it’s operating as an electric vehicle has been one of the highlights of our ownership, and more EV range would make the experience even better.

Jeep Talk Show Gladiator Update

I never want to be accused of fearing technical advancement but after the story of how Jeep is hoping to challenge Rivan and Tesla with a fully electric Gladiator, I’m very happy that I purchased a Gladiator when I did.

There seems to be a path away from EV mandates and leaving it up to the consumer to go ICE, EV, or Hybrid, which I think is the right way to do things.

I do understand that a segment of the population believes we are in a climate emergency and people shouldn’t have a choice.  Obviously, and I think this is true for many self-sufficient people, also named Jeep owners.

Dog rescued from overheating Jeep in Livermore Costco parking lot

Police received reports of the dog inside the Jeep at about 11:45 a.m. The temperature at the time was 101 degrees. Livermore’s Animal Services officers arrived at the Costco parking lot and found the dog “heavily panting” inside the Jeep.

Officers said the Jeep was locked, and windows were closed with the sunroof slightly open. Animal Services took a temperature reading and found it to be 112-131 degrees inside the Jeep.

According to Hill’s study, owners should not leave animals in their cars when the car’s temperature exceeds 85 degrees.

Pennsylvania leaps into the 1940’s by passing SB298 allows Jeeps to go doorless!

The House Transportation Committee unanimously passed a bill sponsored by Sen. Devlin Robinson (R-37) allowing doorless driving for vehicles such as Jeeps and Broncos in Pennsylvania.

“I am pleased that the House Transportation Committee voted in favor of this legislation,” Robinson said. “We are one step closer to aligning Pennsylvania with the rest of the nation by allowing doorless driving.”

A man was rescued from the roof of a Jeep that drove into the San Gabriel River just north of Seal Beach Tuesday, authorities said

A Jeep is seen submerged in the San Gabriel River, right off the Pacific Coast Highway between Long Beach and Seal Beach, after first responders rescued a man from the roof of the vehicle.

First responders found the vehicle submerged in the water at 10:20 a.m., in an area of the river just off the Pacific Coast Highway between Seal Beach and Belmont Park in Long Beach, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.

They found a man on the roof and took him to a hospital with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, fire officials said.

Aerial footage shot at 11 a.m. shows the Jeep still completely underwater, with some sort of hole in its roof.

Nevada State Police are providing an update regarding a video that has since gone viral online involving a Jeep and Tesla.

Officials say the vehicle involved has been located and “appropriate enforcement action has been taken regarding the driver.”

Possessed by a Demon?

Special Texas Gladiator Re-Tread?

Jeep released another state-specific, limited-edition version of the Gladiator and this time it’s catering to off-roaders in the Sunshine State. Sold only in Florida, the 2024 Gladiator High Tide Edition features a distinctive-looking exterior design that you can also order in Texas.

Based on the Sport S trim level, the High Tide Edition gets 17-inch black-painted wheels wrapped by 32-inch mud-terrain tires, steel rock rails, a body-colored hardtop, plus “HIGH TIDE” decals on the hood. We’re told that there’s an edition-specific badge on the tailgate, but pictures of the back end haven’t been released yet. If all of this sounds familiar, it’s because the Texas Trail Edition unveiled earlier in 2024 gets the exact same treatment; only the decals are different. Jeep even published the same picture, though it changed the logo on the hood.

It’s a similar story inside, where the High Tide Edition mirrors the Texas Trail Edition in many ways. The list of standard features includes keyless entry, black McKinley leather upholstery, a 12.3-inch touchscreen for the Uconnect 5 infotainment system, and adaptive cruise control. Heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated door mirrors are included as well — hey, it sometimes freezes in Florida.

Jeep didn’t make any mechanical changes, so power for the High Tide Edition comes from a 3.6-liter V6 rated at 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The standard Sport S is offered with either a six-speed manual transmission or an optional eight-speed automatic.

On sale now in Florida, the 2024 Jeep Gladiator High Tide Edition carries a base price of $50,170, including a mandatory $1,895 destination charge. Buyers have six paint colors to choose from: Black, Bright White, Granite Crystal, Hydro Blue, Firecracker Red, and Anvil. You’re not entirely out of luck if you want a limited-edition Gladiator but live outside of Florida and Texas. Jeep released several limited-edition variants of its truck in recent months including the blacked-out NightHawk and the Rubicon-based Mopar. Tuscadero Pink paint is available as well.

Horsepower or Gears?

In a recent flagship episode “Horsepower of Gears?” Larry asked Wendy and me which we would want? Jeep Talk Show listener Clint reached out and gave us his two cents.

We had said that King of the Hammers it was all about gears, but not so.  , I’m assuming most, of the KOH rigs aren’t geared low at all.  Transfer case of 2:1 and 4.10 gears.  Stall speed of 3000 to 4500 rpm.  They hit the rocks at speed!

Clint added he had a buddy bring a KOH rig to Barnwell Park, here in Texas, and it struggled to crawl.

Clint has been in one, and he says 103 mph smooth and jumps like a cloud.

It’s interesting how purpose-built vehicles can be so good and one thing and not at others.  It makes sense when you think about it.
